International JKA Cup 2019 in Bottrop (Germany) by Hideo Ochi – November 2019

JKA MALTA SKA would like to congratulate 4 of its members who competed at the renowned JKA Cup in Germany that is held every year by Hideo Ochi Sensei 9th Dan JKA Germany and JKA Europe Chief Instructor.

Our members fought with pride to represent Malta and JKA MALTA SKA with Paul Falzon winning 2nd place in Men’s Kumite, Leanne Falzon 1st Place Kumite and 2nd place Kata in Females over 30, Yuki Nocilla 1st Place Female Kumite 21- 29 years category and Yanes Nocilla 2nd place in Team Kumite after being selected to fight for one of JKA Germany’s teams.

Karate Seminar – Shinji Akita Sensei – Report

Between the 18th and 20th October, Shotokan Karate-do Association Malta hosted world-renowned Shinji Akita Sensei, 6th Dan, to lead a training seminar for the first time in Malta. Amongst the 100 Maltese participants, were also international guests from Belgium and Scotland who came to Malta specifically to join us for this special event. The three-day seminar was focused on intriguing concepts in Kihon, Kumite and Kata with special emphasis on using body biomechanics to enhance the effectiveness of technique regardless of age or gender. Karate Seminar – Shinji Akita Sensei

With great pleasure, SKA Malta will be hosting Akita Shinji Sensei, 6th Dan, in October this year for an international seminar.The internationally acclaimed instructor started his karate journey at the age of 12 under Matsuda sensei and Aragane sensei then joined Takudai Karate Club at Takushoku University, Japan, training under Tsuyama Sensei during which period participated in JKA & JKF competitions.
